Because the world has shrunk into a global village, we have access to different cultures across the world. We can find an impressive display of various types of roofs across the world. Basically, you can classify house roof types into two; one the flat type and the other hipped roof. The gable roofs, though, have many eye-catching designs and styles, are not suitable for the houses in typhoon zone.
As in most cases, people tend to follow others in the case of house roof types also. They never realize that there are many other options that too without much difference in expense involved, of structuring a more attractive roof. It will not only give the house an elegant and impressive look but also enhance the market value of the house.
When taking a decision on what roof to build, you must consider two things; the various house roof types and the different roofing materials used. Gable roof and hip roof are almost the same. While gable roof slopes from each side and meet at the ridge, the hip roof slopes from all four sides. It gives the appearance of a lid on a rectangular box. Hip roofs are costly to make because it needs more work, more materials and more manpower.
Gable roofs are still divided into Dutch gable, Gambrel roof etc. An inverted gable roof is named butterfly roof. Though there is no proof, some argue that hip roofs are stronger than the gable roofs, especially in hurricane regions. Flat roof are another choice. There are no decorations or slopes. The work is less and expense is also reduced.
Flat roofs that slope to one side are called shed roofs. It sits on two parallel walls. The height of one wall decides the angle of slope. Though there are a plethora of house roof types to select from, it is wise to select one that will go along with the region you live in. You must also consider the weather and the amount of money you can spend.
